The temple marks the site held to be Rama's birthplace and is the reason most pilgrims come to Ayodhya. It was consecrated on 22 January 2024 with the prana pratishtha of the Ram Lalla murti, Rama as a child, which is the presiding deity. The stone temple rises around 161 feet and has quickly become one of the most visited places of pilgrimage in India.

Darshan runs in time slots through the day, and security is strict: phones, bags, wallets, belts and footwear must be left outside, in the free lockers near the entrance, so carry as little as possible.

Allow considerably longer than the walk suggests. Early mornings and late evenings are usually the calmest, and for anyone elderly it is best to go at the opening of a slot. Wheelchairs are free for elderly and disabled visitors, with a small tip for the volunteer who pushes.
